The vOID DV Workshops

The vOID DV Workshops, located at 16 Mercer Street in SoHo, New York are among the most affordable of their kind.  The workshop’s instructors are at the top of their respective field and active in DV production. The goal of the vOID DV workshops is to teach its students how to get started, how to stay involved, and how to keep current. For those taking our Final Cut Pro Workshop, we require all participants  to purchase the book Final Cut Pro For Macintosh by Lisa Brenneis. The course curriculum that we supply follows Lisa's book.

The (three hour) Introduction to the Digital World Workshop is for those of you just starting out and with little or no knowledge of digital video and computer systems. This workshop will get the intimidation out, and inspire you to continue. If you’re about to invest in equipment, or thinking about it, this workshop will pay for itself by the money saved from the knowledge gained.

The (six hour) Overview Workshop includes equipment review, camera operation, audio tips, lighting technique and introduction to Final Cut Pro and streaming video. This workshop covers the shooting aspects of digital video with an introduction to non-linear editing, thus making the Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop a great next step.

The (three day - 15 hour) Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop is for those interested in three-days of intensive hands-on with Final Cut Pro. This beginner to intermediate level workshop emphasizes memory and practice. We take it step by step, following a course curriculum that we make available to everyone. The only notes you’ll need to take are the questions that you have for the instructor.

The two-evening Advanced Final Cut Pro Workshop has been added in response to those of you who have a desire to learn in a classroom with a more consistent experience level. We recommend this workshop for those currently working with Final Cut Pro.

 



Introduction to the Digital World Workshop:

This three hour beginner-level workshop covers all the basics needed to understand what digital video and non-linear editing is. The workshop is a summary of the Overview Workshop, and is sure to ease intimidation, and inspire those to continue.

Hour 1-3: During this information filled workshop, we will simply get comfortable with the Mac computer and Final Cut Pro interface. This is a great and necessary place to start out, so as not to get overwhelmed from the start.


 The Overview Workshop:

This six hour workshop covers equipment review, camera operation, audio tips, lighting technique, and an introduction to Final Cut Pro and streaming video. This basic to intermediate level workshop is recommended for people starting out, and for those moving on to the Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop.

Hour 1&2: Equipment review, around the camera, filters, white balance, audio tips, the Mics and their uses, blocking a shot, lighting techniques for DV, color temperature, lighting interior/exterior, timecode, using a jib arm, and screen direction.

Hour 3&4: Combining camera, audio, and lighting, working on a concept, storyboarding, pre-visualization, crew communication, talent, release forms, shooting, narration, and intro to Final Cut Pro.

Hour 5&6: Combining camera, audio, lights, and talent, shooting a mini project, the firewire, editing on Final Cut Pro, Quicktime and the web, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro,

What you will learn: Upon successful completion of the Overview Workshop, you will have a greater understanding of the digital video environment. You will be better prepared for both equipment purchase and digital video production. This production based workshop will prepare you for the Final Cut Pro editing workshops.


The Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop:

This three-evening editing workshop is a comprehensive hands-on workshop that covers all the information you need to get started with Final Cut Pro.

Day One: What is non-linear editing?, the Final Cut Pro basic layout, navigating in Final Cut Pro workspace, non-linear editing basics, editing tools, and audio controls.

Day Two: Media and project management, logging and capturing video/audio from DV tape, effects, creating titles, and printing to video.

Day Three: An overview of advanced editing features, effects, and laying your project back to tape.

What you will learn: Upon successful completion of the Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop, you will have a greater understanding of the entire non-linear editing workflow environment, as well as having a full understanding of taking raw material and delivering a polished product.


The Advanced Final Cut Pro Workshop:

This two-evening workshop has been added for those who wish to learn in a classroom with a more consistent experience level. It is day two and three of the Final Cut Pro Intensive Workshop. The class focuses on fine-tuning and troubleshooting.
